Fab Labs and their Business Models

The paper “Commons-Based Peer-Production of Physical Goods—Is There Room for a Hybrid Innovation Ecology?” is the last publication this year on the subject of Fab Labs and their business models. It includes in total three studies: the final results from the Fab Lab survey that I did together with the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Lucerne (Switzerland), an interview study on the “pain and pride” of Fab Lab managers, and a handful of interesting case studies of a Fab Lab’s business potentials.

Peter Troxler from Square One analyzed in his paper how the peer-production of physical goods in the case of Fab Lab might serve as a role model for “hybrid innovation ecology“.
One of the most interesting panels titled “New Forms of Production” was right in the beginning of the conference. The utmost interesting talk of Peter Troxler was titled `Commons-based Peer Production of Physical Goods – Is There Room for a Hybrid Innovation Ecology?’.
